Education in Canada

WHY STUDY IN CANADA?

The Canadian education system is one of the best among all English speaking countries of the world, attributable to industry relevant program structures, highly experienced faculty and the highly stimulating environment of the educational institutions. There is a wide array of available programs that offer great value for money.

Apart from academics, Canadian life is full of diverse experiences and boasts of high quality of living. All of the above, coupled with the easy application and visa process, make Canada an ideal destination for International students.

PROGRAMS AND INSTITUTIONS

There are mainly two types of academic institutions in Canada, degree granting Universities and Diploma or certificate granting Colleges. Diploma programs in Canada are highly oriented towards vocational training and give students a perfect entry point in to the industry of their choosing. Several diploma programs also are in the form of Co-ops that require mandatory training in the industry as part of the education. This is a fantastic way to get relevant exposure and augment the entire learning experience.

WORK AS A STUDENT

While enrolled full time, students are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week within the university on the student visa. During semester breaks, a student may work up to 40 hours per week and is not constrained to working in the university. On completion of the program, a one to three year work permit is granted depending on the program of study and its duration.

COST AND FINANCING

Cost of education varies by university and is generally in the range of 15,000 to 25,000 Canadian Dollars per year. Several institutes may require payment of first semester fees prior to joining.

The easiest mode of financing is through loans obtained from the student’s home country. In India, several nationalized banks as well as financial institutions offer loans to students going to Canada for higher education and may require sufficient collateral before disbursement. Requirements are highly dependent on the institution granting the loan.
